Founded in London in 2017, 45turns is a UK-based music blog with a focus on quality balearic and electronic music on vinyl (not the sparkly posh balearic, the dubbed-out, whooshy what-was-that-in-the-corner-of-your-eyes balearic).
At core it’s an online outlet of expression for the love of a physical format, contributing to a new, globally-connected way of exploring sound that retains all the personal charm, nuance and thrill of quality vinyl listening. Whether it’s jazz, funk, acid, downtempo, house or ambient, here you’ll find undying support of vinyl records as the optimum medium for electronic music.
We’re inspired by islands, waves and grooves, and on the site you’ll find insights and articles on everything within the balearic canon, from sun-kissed Italo and fuzzy disco jams to tropical Brazilian funk and brooding downtempo flavours . The idea is to create a place for the sharing and discovery of life-affirming music, and, much like the definition of balearic music, it really is anything we want it to be.
Alongside the editorial we throw listening sessions and parties in London as Elevator East, and occasionally take over some of the city’s best underground radio stations, bringing with us our ever-growing network of music lovers, record collectors and friends to share their tastes with the world. We’re always on the lookout for new heads to swap music with, so if you feel like joining the fun jump over to the contact page and give us a shout.
As per the ethos, all articles on the records page include purchase links to vinyl formats – usually well before the Discogs sharks get involved. Sign up to the mailing list to be the first to know out about these tasty vinyl tips.
So please dig through the archive of records, browse through the selectors and give us a like on the socials. With everything else in the world going mad, here’s your place of refuge. Keep it breezy….
